Introduce your children to the joys of gardening. Choose to attend either the June or July sessions of the Jr Green Thumb kids summer gardening at the Gardens of Vernon Township (602 Vitality Drive, Fortville). This program is designed for kids entering 1st - 4th grades. Please register each child seperately.
The two sessions have identical classes on Fridays from 10-11:30 a.m.:
Plant Parts, Needs & Life Cycle - How a plant grows & life stages; students act out seed sprouting into a plant.
Session 1: June 6
Session 2: July 4
Soil Health - Get your hands dirty exploring soil types, create mud pies, hypothesize best soil for plants and discuss results.
Session 1: June 13
Session 2: July 11
Beneficial Insects & Pollination - Investigate flower parts, learn about pollination, conduct experiments, explore pollinator garden and lots of activities.
Session 1: June 20
Session 2: July 18
Agriculture in our Lives- Explore plant uses, sustainability practices, taste plant parts, regrow vegetables and garden activities.
Session 1: June 27

What?
Enjoy Fridays 10-11:30 a.m. this Summer in the Vernon Township Community Garden with your family! The lessons are geared to children entering 1st-4th grade.
We will be outside with the birds, bees, butterflies and dirt so please dress for nature.
Where?
Vernon Township Community Gardens at 602 Vitality Drive, Fortville (Public restrooms are available on site).
Who?
The Jr Green Thumb program will be led by Mt Vernon school teachers Jessica Buell and Amy McCleery with Hancock Cty Master Gardeners providing volunteer support!
Additional program supporters are Florence May (Vernon Township Trustee/TRS Owner), Ashtan Bennett (Vernon Township Library), Edith Dubree (Earl Grey Fields), Christina Cochard (College Student), and Michelle Graves (Hancock Wellness Center - McCordsville).
Participation Fee?
The Jr Green Thumb program is generously sponsored by a grant from North Central SARE - Sustainable Agriculture Research & Agriculture and the support of all our partner organizations.There is no fee to participate.
Communications?
You will receive a reminder email and text each week prior to class. In case of poor weather, we have the option to host the session inside the new training facility at 602 Vitality Drive.
